SYNOPSIS:

In 1944 Greenwich Village, Susan Hendrix, a blind yet capable woman, is imperiled by a trio of men in her own apartment. As the climax builds, Susan discovers that her blindness just might be the key to her escape, but she and her tormentors must wait until dark to play out this classic thriller's chilling conclusion.

KEY DATES:

Virtual Auditions: Thursday, July 10, 2025
In-Person Auditions: Saturday, July 12, 2025, 9:00am-2:00pm
Callbacks (by invitation only): July 19, 2025 9:00am-2:00pm
Rehearsals begin: Weekday evenings and Saturdays 9am-1pm. Exact times TBD.
Performances: October 10 - November 1, 2025 Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, with one added Wednesday (October 15)
Cast members must be available for all dress rehearsals, tech rehearsals, and performances from September 29 - November 1.

In-person auditions will be held at West Valley Performing Arts Center located at 3333 S Decker Lake Dr. West Valley City, UT 84119

For all auditions, please prepare a 30 second monologue in the style of the show.

All performers will receive a rehearsal and performance stipend. We do not offer housing.

West Valley Arts is currently seeking diverse actors for our production of Wait Until Dark by Frederick Knott.

CHARACTERS:

SUSAN (F, 20-45, all ethnicities) A clever, kind, and vivacious young woman who recently lost her sight in an accident. This role requires strong physicality.
*Please note the performer playing this role will be required to learn and perform fight
choreography. Also, the performer must be comfortable navigating the stage in complete
darkness for an extended period of time.

MIKE (M, 20-50, all ethnicities) An up-and-coming con man just out of prison and down on his luck. *Please note that this performer will be required to learn and perform fight choreography.

SAM (M, 20-45, all ethnicities) Suzy’s husband, an ex-Marine, and a professional photographer.

CARLINO (M, 20-60, all ethnicities) Also fresh out of prison and strapped for cash, Carlino is Mike’s more weathered and jaded partner.

ROAT (M, 20-60) The brains of the operation and a master manipulator.

GLORIA (F, 10-14, all ethnicities) The 9-year-old girl who lives in the apartment above Susy and helps her while her husband is out.
